Deputy Director – Learning & Outreach ROLE PURPOSE
To develop and manage the Children’s Museum Learning & Outreach Department. Part of the Museum’s leadership team.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES & DUTIES
Oversees and manages the Learning & Outreach staff and museum outreach programmes both on and off site.
Supports in strategic planning by developing and implementing plans and goals for the department.
Develops and delivers staff professional development.
Establishes clear direction, prioritizes tasks, assigns and delegates responsibility; monitors individual performance, provides regular feedback and takes prompt action where necessary.
With the L&O team, develops programmes for families, children, schools, teachers (current and trainee), community groups, and those with special educational needs.
Develops program evaluation protocols and procedures.
Participates in and contributes to museum development projects including exhibition development and operational planning.
Manages the L&O Department budget.
Represents the Children’s Museum at various educational and learning events and conferences.
Participates with other senior QM staff on cross-museum initiatives and projects.
Maintains excellent communication levels within the Department and across QM other departments.
Represents the department/organization as appropriate within the organization, locally and internationally.
Collaborates and build working relationships with related business stakeholders, external vendors & service suppliers, and International museum & industry peers.
Full management of the L&O Department annual budget.
QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s degree in a related field, Masters preferred
10 years relevant experience, 3 years in a management or strategic position.
Excellent language skills in English and Arabic (preferred)
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Proficiency in computer skills, Microsoft Office
Demonstrated knowledge of museum learning, educational theory, and community outreach strategies.
Demonstrated Knowledge of policies and procedures design and implementation
Demonstrated knowledge and skills of strategic planning and leadership
